IIM Shillong MBA: Programme Overview
IIM Shillong's flagship PGP is a two-year, full-time residential programme leading to the Master of Business Administration degree. The institute describes the programme as suitable for fresh graduates and young professionals. It runs across six terms and combines core management courses, electives, a summer internship and integrative learning.
The programme awards an MBA degree. IIM Shillong's official FAQ confirms that its two-year full-time PGP leads to the Master of Business Administration degree.
IIM Shillong MBA Eligibility 2026-28
For the PGP 2026-28 domestic admission cycle, a candidate must have a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. The minimum is 45% for SC, ST and Differently Abled candidates. The degree must be from a recognized university/institution under the eligibility rules specified by the institute.
Who can apply?
| Requirement | 2026-28 rule |
|---|---|
| Academic qualification | Bachelor's degree or equivalent |
| Minimum graduation marks | 50% for general applicants; 45% for SC/ST/DA |
| Entrance test | Valid CAT score for domestic applicants |
| Work experience | Not mandatory; programme is open to fresh graduates and young professionals |
Students should calculate Class X and XII percentages according to the institute's rules, which use the aggregate of subjects appearing on the marksheet. Work experience is considered only when supported by valid documentary proof.
IIM Shillong CAT Cutoff 2026-28 & Admission Process
IIM Shillong does not publish a single CAT percentile as a guaranteed admission cutoff. Instead, the 2026-28 policy establishes minimum sectional thresholds and then uses a composite score for PI shortlisting. This distinction is important when interpreting online “cutoff” searches.
| Category | VARC | DILR | QA |
|---|---|---|---|
| Others / unreserved | 75 | 75 | 75 |
| EWS | 75 | 75 | 75 |
| SC | 60 | 60 | 60 |
| ST | 50 | 50 | 50 |
| DA | 50 | 50 | 50 |
Shortlisting formula
After preliminary screening, IIM Shillong calculates a composite score using CAT percentile with 65% weight and the Normalized Application Rating Score (NARS) with 35% weight. NARS incorporates Class X, Class XII, graduation and work-experience information. Shortlisted candidates then participate in the Personal Interaction stage.
Final admission
The final merit list is prepared after the PI stage using the institute's published final-selection criteria. The exact final score structure can change by admission cycle, so applicants should always use the current policy document rather than older coaching-site formulas.
Do not target only the minimum 75 sectional threshold. IIM Shillong's composite shortlisting means a stronger CAT percentile and stronger academic/profile scores can materially improve the probability of a PI call.
IIM Shillong MBA Fees 2026-28: What Will You Actually Pay?
The institute's public finance page currently displays the detailed PGP 2024-26 schedule of ₹26.18 lakh. It includes acceptance/caution/advance mess charges and six term-wise payments. A separate detailed 2026-28 fee schedule was not publicly visible on that page when this guide was prepared, so ₹26.18 lakh should be treated as the latest detailed official reference rather than a confirmed 2026-28 invoice.

The published curriculum includes financial reporting and analysis, managerial economics, marketing management, statistics for decision making, financial management and markets, managerial accounting, operations management, leadership, business ethics, corporate finance, MIS, operations research, human capital management, strategic management, sustainability and business law.

| Year II | Electives, independent study, capstone and broader general-management learning. |
Students can build depth through institute electives across finance and control, information systems and analytics, marketing, operations and quantitative techniques, organizational behaviour and HR, and strategy/liberal studies.
Summer Internship, International Exposure & Learning Beyond Class
The PGP includes a two-month summer internship at the end of the first year. The internship is important because it can lead to a PPO/PPI and also helps students test a function before final placements.
IIM Shillong also offers Study Abroad and Student Exchange opportunities. The institute's handbook describes the Study Abroad Program as an optional international academic experience. Students should budget for airfare, food, visa, insurance and personal expenses separately from the estimated academic/accommodation cost.
If your goal is consulting, finance, analytics or general management, use the internship to build role-specific evidence. The final placement headline is not the only outcome that matters; the internship and PPO route can materially change your two-year ROI.
IIM Shillong MBA Placements
The latest completed PGP final-placement report is for the 2024-26 batch. The batch had 393 students and 147 recruiters, including 51 new recruiters. The report records 102 PPO/PPI offers.
For context, the 2023-25 batch recorded ₹26.44 LPA average CTC and ₹25 LPA median CTC. The 2024-26 outcome therefore shows a higher average and median.
Use median CTC for a realistic centre-point, average CTC for overall batch economics and the highest CTC only as an upper-end outcome. Then check domain and sector mix before deciding whether IIM Shillong matches your target role.
