MBBS at AMU: Overview

The MBBS programme at AMU is offered through the Faculty of Medicine and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC). The 2026-27 Guide to Admissions lists a duration of 4½ years followed by one year of compulsory rotatory internship and an intake of 145 students.

Unlike programmes such as B.Tech and MBA that use AMU's own admission tests, MBBS selection is through NEET-UG for registered candidates. Selected candidates also have to undergo a medical fitness examination before completing admission formalities.

AMU MBBS Eligibility 2026

The 2026-27 admission guide requires the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination of AMU or an equivalent recognised examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. Candidates must have obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

The minimum age is 17 years as on December 31 of the year of admission. Candidates must also satisfy the applicable NEET-UG eligibility and counselling requirements.

AMU MBBS Admission 2026 Through NEET-UG

MBBS selection at AMU is through NEET-UG among registered candidates. The AMU admission guide does not prescribe a separate AMU MBBS entrance test.

Admission workflow

1. Meet the 10+2 PCB and English eligibility requirements.
2. Appear for NEET-UG and obtain a valid result/rank.
3. Register for the applicable medical counselling process and indicate AMU/JNMC where eligible.

AMU MBBS Fees 2026-27

The 2026-27 AMU admission guide lists ₹55,900 as the fee payable at the time of admission for M.B.B.S. This should be read as the admission-time amount, not automatically as the total cost of the full MBBS programme.

Students should separately verify recurring university charges, hostel and mess expenses and any other applicable fees from the current AMU schedule.

Clinical Training & Medical Learning

Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College is the clinical teaching environment associated with AMU's medical education. AMU's Department of Medicine states that its department was established in 1963 and that the annual intake of MBBS students increased from 50 to 150 historically; the current 2026-27 admission guide lists 145 seats.

The current admission guide lists ₹55,900 payable at admission for MBBS. Students should not interpret that single payment as the total five-and-a-half-year financial requirement. Hostel, mess, later university charges, books, equipment, travel and personal expenses should be budgeted separately.
