B.Tech at AMU: Overview

The Bachelor of Technology programme at AMU is offered through the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, including Zakir Husain College of Engineering & Technology. The 2026-27 Guide to Admissions lists an eight-semester B.Tech programme with 11 branch options, ranging from core engineering to Computer Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) and Electronics & Communication Engineering with VLSI Design & Technology.

Important

AMU B.Tech admission is through the university's admission test for the 2026-27 cycle. Do not assume JEE Main is the primary route simply because the programme is B.Tech; follow the AMU admission guide for the current cycle.

AMU B.Tech Eligibility 2026

The 2026-27 guide requires the Senior Secondary School Certificate examination of AMU or an equivalent examination with at least 50% marks in aggregate of English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. An eligible Diploma in Engineering with at least 50% marks in aggregate is also listed as a qualifying route.

Applicants must also satisfy the applicable course and category conditions under AMU's admission rules. The university specifically directs candidates to check the Allowed Courses under Important Information & Rules.

AMU B.Tech Admission 2026

Admission Test

Selection is through the AMU Admission Test. The 2026-27 guide describes an objective-type paper of 150 marks comprising questions on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Application and counselling workflow

  1. Read the current 2026-27 Guide to Admissions and identify the B.Tech course code.
  2. Complete the AMU Controller of Examinations application form during the published application window.
  3. Prepare Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics according to the published admission-test syllabus.
  4. Appear for the AMU B.Tech admission test at the notified centre.
  5. Check the result, rank/selection status and counselling-cum-admission schedule.
  6. Complete document verification and fee payment if selected.

AMU B.Tech Fees 2026-27

The 2026-27 fee appendix gives the amount payable at admission for each course. These are admission-time amounts, not the complete four-year cost.

BranchFee payable at admission
Mechanical Engineering₹25,500; ₹1,25,500 under SFS
Chemical Technology (Refining & Petrochemicals)₹25,500; ₹1,25,500 under SFS
Chemical Engineering (Food Technology)₹51,500; ₹1,51,500 under SFS
Computer Engineering (Artificial Intelligence)₹70,500
Automobile Engineering (Electric & Hybrid Vehicles)₹70,500; ₹1,70,500 under SFS
ECE (VLSI Design & Technology)₹70,500

Other recurring charges, hostel and mess costs and later-semester fees should be verified from the latest university fee schedule.

B.Tech Curriculum & Learning

The programme combines engineering fundamentals with branch-specific technical subjects, laboratory work, practical training and project-based learning. AMU's Computer Engineering department highlights laboratories for software, hardware, advanced computing, networking and basic computing, while engineering departments maintain their own curriculum and practical infrastructure.

For students targeting technology careers, branch selection should be considered alongside coding skills, internships, projects and higher-study plans. For core branches, practical training and industry exposure are equally important.

AMU B.Tech Placements

Engineering placements are handled through the dedicated ZHCET Training & Placement Office. The official TPO portal provides placement brochures, visited recruiters, internship/training data, higher-studies data and placement announcements.

AMU's Computer Engineering department states that students find placements in prestigious national and international organisations and that students have also progressed to higher education and competitive examinations. For current salary statistics, students should use the latest ZHCET placement brochure rather than an old department headline.

AMU B.Tech Cutoff 2026

AMU publishes admission-test results, ranks and admission lists through the Controller of Examinations. A single fixed “cutoff” number is not safe to quote without specifying the branch, category, round/list and year.

How to use cutoff data

For a meaningful estimate, compare the latest published selection/admission lists for the exact branch and category. Treat a previous year's last admitted rank as a reference, not a guaranteed 2026 cutoff.

Which B.Tech Branch Should You Choose?

Computer Engineering / AI

Best aligned with software, AI, data and computing careers, provided you are ready to build coding and project skills.

ECE / VLSI

Consider this route for electronics, embedded systems, semiconductor, VLSI and communications-oriented careers.

Electrical

Suitable for power, electrical systems, automation, PSUs and allied technology roles.

Mechanical / Civil / Chemical

Strong options for core engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure, process, energy and public-sector pathways.

AMU B.Tech Branch Comparison

The 2026-27 intake includes both established core branches and newer technology-focused options. A higher-demand branch should not automatically be treated as the best branch for every student. The correct choice depends on career intent, academic strengths and willingness to build skills beyond the classroom.

Branch familyTypical career directionWhat to prioritise
Computer / AISoftware, AI, data, cloud and technology rolesCoding, DSA, projects, internships and technical interview preparation
ECE / VLSISemiconductors, embedded systems, electronics and communicationsDigital electronics, VLSI tools, embedded projects and industry exposure
ElectricalPower, electrical systems, automation, energy and public-sector rolesCore subjects, software tools, projects and internships
Mechanical / AutomobileManufacturing, automotive, design, production and mobilityCAD/CAE, manufacturing exposure, projects and core internships
CivilConstruction, infrastructure, structural and public-sector rolesDesign tools, site exposure, structures and project work
Chemical / Food / PetrochemicalProcess, refining, food technology, chemicals and manufacturingProcess knowledge, plant exposure, safety and technical internships

AMU B.Tech Entrance Test Preparation

The B.Tech admission test is objective-type and covers Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Preparation should therefore begin with the qualifying-examination syllabus but should also include timed objective practice because speed and accuracy matter in a competitive test.

A practical preparation sequence

  1. Finish the core concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  2. Create a formula and reaction revision sheet.
  3. Practise mixed-topic objective questions rather than studying only chapter-wise.
  4. Use timed mock papers to improve question selection and reduce avoidable errors.
  5. Track weak chapters and revise them repeatedly during the final preparation phase.

Career Outcomes After B.Tech

Engineering outcomes at AMU should be evaluated using three evidence streams: campus placements, internships and higher studies. ZHCET maintains dedicated resources for all three. Current recruitment notices also demonstrate that eligibility can be highly specific: some drives target Computer/AI, some target core branches, and some allow all engineering branches.

This means students should build a profile that remains employable even if the preferred recruiter does not visit campus. Projects, internships, technical certifications, coding or engineering software skills and communication can materially affect the final outcome.

B.Tech Cost vs Career Value

AMU's admission-time B.Tech fees are relatively course-specific and include different amounts for regular and self-finance seats in the current guide. Students should compare the complete four-year cost rather than only the first admission payment. Include later-semester university charges, hostel and mess expenses, books, laptop/software needs, travel and project costs.

For ROI, compare that total with the branch-specific placement and higher-study evidence. A low academic fee does not automatically guarantee high ROI, and a higher fee does not automatically mean better outcomes.
