How to apply for Jamia Millia Islamia admission

JMI applications are submitted online through the university admission portal. The exact form, entrance route and document list depend on the programme.

  1. Open admission.jmi.ac.in and select the relevant academic session.
  2. Open the current prospectus and locate the exact programme name and programme code. Check whether admission is through JMI's test, CUET, JEE Main, NATA, NEET, NCET or another route.
  3. Register with a working email address and mobile number. Use the same details throughout the application and admission process.
  4. Enter personal, academic and category details exactly as shown on official documents. Check name, date of birth, marks and subject combinations before payment.
  5. Upload the photograph, signature and supporting documents in the file format and size specified on the portal.
  6. Pay the application fee through the available online payment method and save the submitted form and payment receipt.
  7. Download the admit card when released. Check the reporting time, test centre, permitted documents and instructions.
  8. After the test or national exam result, check the JMI admission portal for interview lists, merit lists, waiting lists, counselling and document-verification instructions.
  9. If selected, complete admission formalities and pay the course fee within the deadline stated in the selection notice.
Do not miss this: JMI's prospectus says that once the application fee is paid, the form cannot be edited through the normal edit option. If a correction is needed, follow the specific email procedure and deadline stated in the prospectus. A correction request is not automatically accepted.

Jamia Millia Islamia eligibility: what marks are required?

There is no single JMI eligibility percentage for every course. The required subjects and marks change by programme. A few examples from the 2026–27 prospectus are below; applicants must read the complete programme-specific clause.

ProgrammePublished eligibility example for 2026–27
MBA / MBA International Business / MBA Innovation & EntrepreneurshipBachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grade.
BBA / BCom (Hons) / BA (Hons) EconomicsSenior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% in best five papers or in the subject concerned.
BA (Hons) Sociology / PsychologySenior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% in aggregate of best five papers.
BA LLB (Hons)Class XII or equivalent with at least 50% aggregate in core subjects and English.
BTechSubject combination and qualifying-exam conditions apply; the admission route is based on JEE Main as specified in the prospectus.
BPT10+2 with Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English; at least 50% in PCB, plus NEET 2026 score/rank route.

For reserved categories, equivalence, age conditions, subject requirements and programme-specific relaxations, read the official eligibility wording. Do not assume a general relaxation applies to every course.

Jamia Millia Islamia fees 2026–27: course-wise examples

JMI fees are not one common amount. The prospectus lists fees by programme and distinguishes regular from self-financed courses. The following are examples transcribed from the 2026–27 prospectus; they are not a complete fee list.

ProgrammeDurationFee stated in 2026–27 prospectusHow to read it
BA (Hons) Political Science8 semesters₹10,175Annual fee line in prospectus programme table
BA (Hons) Psychology8 semesters₹13,475Annual fee line
BSc (Hons) Computer Science8 semesters₹15,300 regular; ₹50,300 self-financedTwo separate fee categories
BTech Civil / Electrical / Mechanical / ECE / Computer Engineering8 semesters₹19,525Regular programme annual fee line
BTech self-financed options listed in the prospectus8 semesters₹1,53,175Applies to listed self-financed BTech programmes, not regular BTech
BEd4 semesters₹13,325Additional curricular fee of ₹1,000 in year two is also noted
MBA (Full Time)4 semesters₹26,875 per yearRegular MBA fee; check programme-specific charges in the prospectus

Before budgeting: confirm whether the amount is annual, semester-wise or a one-time programme fee; check examination, hostel, fieldwork, internship, laboratory, security and other charges. Self-financed programmes can cost much more than regular programmes with similar names. The 2026–27 university announcement stated no fee hike for that session; this does not guarantee the same fee for 2027–28.

Which entrance exam is required for JMI courses?

The admission route depends on the course. JMI does not use one entrance exam for every programme.

Admission routeExamples / explanation
JMI entrance testMany BA, BCom, BBA, MA, MSc, MBA, law and other programmes use a university entrance test. Check the programme code in Annexure I.
CUETThe prospectus specifically marks selected programmes as CUET-based. Follow the CUET subject and university application instructions for those courses.
JEE MainBTech admission follows the JEE Main route stated by JMI. Check the current prospectus for counselling and eligibility instructions.
NATABArch admission uses NATA as specified by JMI.
NEETBDS and some health programmes use NEET, as stated in the relevant programme rules. BPT 2026–27 is listed on the basis of NEET score/rank.
NCETIntegrated Teacher Education Programme admission follows the NCET route where specified.

Use the JMI admission portal for the application and JMI's Entrance Syllabus / Prospectus section for the applicable syllabus and test pattern. Do not prepare from another course's syllabus.

JMI cutoff, merit list and selection list

JMI does not have one university-wide cutoff. The cutoff or closing score depends on the programme, entrance test, category, seat matrix, applicant performance and selection stages. For CUET/JEE/NEET-based programmes, the applicable national test score and JMI's programme-specific merit process matter.

  • Check the programme code and entrance test before comparing cutoffs.
  • Read the selection list and waiting list for the correct academic session.
  • Where JMI conducts an interview or group discussion, a written-test score alone may not determine final selection.
  • Do not treat an unofficial coaching estimate as an official closing cutoff.
  • JMI's admission portal publishes results, notices and selected-candidate lists: official portal.

For a reliable cutoff comparison, use the official list for the same programme, year and category. If JMI has not published a closing score, it should be reported as unavailable rather than guessed.

Jamia Millia Islamia placements: what the official data says

Placement outcomes vary by faculty, department, course and graduating batch. A university-wide statement should not be presented as the average salary of every JMI student. Two official sources provide useful but different views:

Management category: NIRF 2025 submitted data

97Students placed
₹12.6 lakhMedian salary of placed graduates
103Graduated in minimum time

The NIRF 2025 Management submission reports 103 students graduating in minimum stipulated time in academic year 2023–24, 97 students placed and a median salary of ₹12,60,000. It also reports 6 students selected for higher studies. This is the Management-category submission, not a university-wide placement average.

Department of Management Studies placement brochure

JMI's Department of Management Studies 2025–26 placement brochure presents a salary snapshot for the 2023–25 cohort: highest CTC ₹24 LPA, average CTC ₹10.8 LPA and median CTC ₹10 LPA. These brochure figures are a separate cohort/reporting snapshot and should not be merged with the NIRF 2025 figures above.

Important for applicants: the ₹24 LPA highest CTC is not the expected salary for every MBA student. The ₹10.8 LPA average and ₹10 LPA median belong to the brochure's stated 2023–25 cohort. These numbers must not be used as placement figures for BTech, BA, BCom, law, tourism, hospital management or every other JMI programme.
