IIM Mumbai MBA: Programme Overview
IIM Mumbai's MBA is a two-year, full-time residential postgraduate programme. The 2026–28 admission policy states that the programme is open to graduates from all disciplines who meet the degree and CAT requirements. The institute's current MBA offering follows the legacy of NITIE Mumbai while operating as IIM Mumbai.
IIM Mumbai MBA Eligibility 2026
The official 2026–28 MBA admission policy requires a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. The minimum is relaxed to 45% for candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories. The degree must involve at least three years of education after 10+2 or an equivalent qualification.
Eligibility for final-year students
Final-year bachelor's degree students and candidates who have completed degree requirements but are awaiting results can apply. If selected, they can join provisionally only after submitting the required certificate confirming completion of degree requirements by June 30, 2026. The final marksheet and degree certificate must be submitted by December 31, 2026. Failure to meet these conditions leads to cancellation of provisional admission.
How IIM Mumbai treats CGPA
If the university provides an official CGPA-to-percentage conversion, that conversion is used. If the institution does not have a conversion scheme, IIM Mumbai calculates the percentage by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying by 100.
Eligibility is not the same as shortlist probability
The institute explicitly states that meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee shortlisting at any stage. Meeting the CAT minimums only makes a candidate eligible for consideration for the next stage.
IIM Mumbai CAT Cutoff 2026-28
IIM Mumbai's official admission policy gives minimum CAT 2025 sectional and overall percentiles for Stage I. These are qualifying thresholds for consideration. The institute states that actual cutoffs can be higher depending on the number of candidates called for the Personal Interview in each category.
| Category | VARC | DILR | QA | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Open | 80 | 80 | 75 | 85 |
| NC-OBC | 70 | 65 | 65 | 75 |
| EWS | 70 | 65 | 65 | 75 |
| SC | 65 | 60 | 60 | 70 |
| ST | 55 | 55 | 55 | 65 |
| PwD | 45 | 45 | 45 | 55 |
What CAT percentile should you target for IIM Mumbai?
The official minimum for the Open category is 85 overall, but the institute itself cautions that the actual section-wise and overall cutoffs may be much higher. For a General/Open-category applicant, a practical preparation target should therefore be set materially above 85. A target of around 97–99+ percentile is a planning benchmark rather than an official cutoff or guarantee of a PI call.
85 overall with the required sectional percentiles is the published minimum for Stage I. It does not mean that an 85-percentile candidate will necessarily receive a PI call. Shortlisting depends on the CAT score distribution and the number of candidates to be called.
IIM Mumbai MBA Admission Process 2026
The 2026–28 admission policy divides the process into three stages. CAT 2025 is used for the first-stage threshold and PI shortlisting. Final selection is based on a composite score after the Personal Interview.
Stage 1: Meet CAT 2025 cutoff requirements
Candidates must meet both the sectional and overall CAT 2025 percentile requirements for their category. The minimum thresholds are listed in the CAT cutoff table above.
Stage 2: Shortlisting for Personal Interview
Among candidates satisfying Stage I, IIM Mumbai shortlists candidates for the Personal Interview based on CAT 2025 score, sectional cutoffs and reservation category. The institute does not state that merely crossing the published minimum guarantees a PI call.
Stage 3: Personal Interview and final merit list
Candidates appearing for the PI are evaluated through a final composite score. The 2026–28 MBA policy assigns 60% to CAT 2025, 20% to the Personal Interview and 20% to the Academic Performance & Work Experience score.
| Final selection component | Weight |
|---|---|
| CAT 2025 score | 60% |
| Personal Interview | 20% |
| Academic Performance & Work Experience | 20% |
| Total | 100% |
How APWE is calculated
The Academic Performance & Work Experience score uses Class 10, Class 12, bachelor's degree and work experience. IIM Mumbai applies rating scales that differ by academic stream and bachelor's discipline. The policy specifies an academic multiplier of 0.70 for Class 10, Class 12 and bachelor's ratings, and a 0.20 multiplier for the work-experience component.
The regular MBA eligibility criteria do not prescribe a minimum work-experience requirement. However, relevant work experience contributes to the APWE component of final selection.
Reservation and category rules
The 2026–28 policy states that reservation follows Government of India requirements. It lists 27% for NC-OBC, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 5% for PwD and up to 10% for EWS, subject to applicable rules and conditions.
IIM Mumbai MBA Admission Dates
The MBA 2026–28 cycle is based on CAT 2025. The institute's official admission policy confirms the academic completion deadlines for provisionally admitted final-year candidates. IIM Mumbai's current admission page does not provide a complete dated calendar for every MBA application milestone in the indexed admission-policy document.
| Admission milestone | Date / status |
|---|---|
| CAT used for MBA 2026–28 | CAT 2025 |
| CAT examination | 30 November 2025 |
| Final-year degree completion deadline | 30 June 2026 |
| Final-year marksheet and degree certificate submission | 31 December 2026 |
| Next MBA admission cycle | Dates to be announced by IIM Mumbai |
Do not reuse the 2026–28 dates as the next cycle's application schedule. IIM Mumbai can change the admission policy and timeline. Candidates should check the official admissions portal when the next MBA admission notification is released.

- ₹50,000 refundable caution money deposit.
- Mess charges and mess deposit, which IIM Mumbai states are payable separately.

IIM Mumbai MBA Placements: 2026 Report
IIM Mumbai's official placement portal lists final placement reports for the 2026, 2025, 2024 and 2022 batches. The latest 2026 final placement report covers the combined graduating cohorts of MBA, MBA-OSCM and MBA-SM. Therefore, the reported salary and recruiter figures below should be interpreted as combined programme-level placement outcomes rather than MBA-only outcomes.
Year-wise placement statistics
| Placement year | Institute identity | Average CTC | Highest CTC | Top 10% / other reported metric | Students / batch | Recruiter count |

| 2024 | IIM Mumbai | Not reproduced from the official report extract used here | ₹54.00 LPA | Top 10% average: ₹47.29 LPA; Top 20%: ₹40.71 LPA; Top 50%: ₹33.84 LPA | 446 | 180 |
| 2022 | NITIE Mumbai | ₹25.40 LPA | ₹49.00 LPA | Median: ₹22.00 LPA; Top 10% average: ₹45.37 LPA | 468 | 107 |
The 2024 and 2022 figures are from the institute's final-placement report archive. The 2024 report records 446 students, 180 participating companies, ₹54 lakh highest compensation and top-10%, top-20% and top-50% averages. The 2022 report records 468 students, 107 participating companies, ₹49 lakh highest compensation, ₹25.4 lakh average CTC and ₹22 lakh median CTC. The institute was known as NITIE for the 2022 batch. IIM Mumbai's placement page now lists the 2026, 2025, 2024 and 2022 reports together, reflecting the transition from NITIE to IIM Mumbai.
What changed across the reported years?
The reported average CTC increased from ₹25.40 lakh in the 2022 NITIE report to ₹31.00 lakh in 2024 and ₹31.40 lakh in the 2026 combined IIM Mumbai report. The latest report also records 208 recruiting companies and 179 PPOs, indicating a larger reported recruiter base than the 2024 cycle.
These years should not be treated as a perfectly like-for-like MBA-only series. The 2026 report covers MBA, MBA-OSCM and MBA-SM together, while earlier NITIE reports reflect the programmes and reporting structure of those years.
Recruiting sectors and roles
The placement ecosystem is closely linked to IIM Mumbai's management and industrial-management orientation. The institute's placement reports cover recruitment across areas such as consulting, BFSI, FMCG, manufacturing, technology, analytics, logistics, operations and related management functions.

The placement data is relevant for students targeting consulting, operations, supply chain, analytics, manufacturing, BFSI, technology and other management roles. The institute's latest placement report should be read for recruiter-level and role-level details before making a career decision.
How to use placement data: compare the role mix and sector distribution with your target function. The highest CTC alone is not sufficient to judge programme fit.
Who Should Apply to IIM Mumbai MBA?
