IIM Ahmedabad MBA Overview
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) is a public management institute established in 1961. Its flagship two-year full-time MBA, formally the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), is a residential programme for graduates from different academic backgrounds. Domestic applicants are admitted through CAT, followed by IIMA's shortlisting, Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) process.
IIMA's current programme portfolio also includes MBA-FABM, MBA-PGPX and MBA-BPGP. On this overview page, only the most student-relevant programmes are highlighted; detailed eligibility, fees and admission information is available on the dedicated programme pages.
IIM Ahmedabad MBA Admission Dates 2027

IIM Ahmedabad MBA Admission Process 2027
1. Meet the eligibility requirements
For the domestic PGP 2027–29 batch, candidates need a recognised bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks, or 45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates under the published policy. Final-year candidates can also apply subject to IIMA's degree-completion requirements.
2. Take CAT 2026
CAT 2026 is the entrance examination for domestic PGP applicants. IIMA publishes minimum qualifying percentile thresholds by category, but these are screening thresholds rather than guaranteed PI-call or admission percentiles.
3. Shortlisting for AWT and PI
IIMA uses a composite shortlisting process that considers CAT performance and the application rating, with discipline-level normalisation where applicable.
4. AWT and Personal Interview
Shortlisted candidates appear for the Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) at designated cities listed by IIMA.
5. Final selection
For the published 2027–29 policy, the final selection composite assigns 50% to PI, 10% to AWT and 40% to the normalised composite score. The final admission decision therefore depends on multiple components rather than CAT percentile alone.
IIM Ahmedabad CAT Cutoff 2027: Minimum vs Expected Interview Call
For the PGP 2027–29 admission cycle, IIMA's published minimum CAT 2026 screening thresholds are not the same as the percentile typically needed to receive an AWT-PI call. The institute does not publish a guaranteed CAT percentile for an interview call or final admission; shortlisting also depends on the application rating and the category/academic-profile based process.
Minimum CAT 2026 screening cutoff
| Category | Overall percentile | VARC | DILR | QA |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | 95 | 85 | 85 | 85 |
| NC-OBC | 90 | 80 | 80 | 80 |
| SC | 85 | 75 | 75 | 75 |
| ST | 75 | 65 | 65 | 65 |
| PwD – General/EWS | 85 | 75 | 75 | 75 |
| PwD – NC-OBC | 80 | 70 | 70 | 70 |
| PwD – SC | 75 | 65 | 65 | 65 |
| PwD – ST | 65 | 55 | 55 | 55 |
What CAT percentile should you target for an interview call?
There is no official “expected cutoff” published by IIMA. For planning purposes, candidates should understand that the effective interview-call level can be materially higher than the published minimum because IIMA shortlists candidates using a composite process. An IIMA admissions explainer states that, for General-category students, candidates scoring in the 99–100 percentile range are considered; this is an institutional guidance statement, not a guaranteed 2027–29 call cutoff.
Do not use 99 percentile as a guaranteed cutoff. Academic profile, work experience and the application rating can change the shortlist outcome. The latest published shortlisting criteria also show that candidates are selected using a composite score rather than CAT percentile alone.
IIM Ahmedabad admission weightage 2027–29
For the published PGP 2027–29 policy, the final selection score gives the following weightage:
| Selection parameter | Weightage | Stage |
|---|---|---|
| Personal Interview (PI) | 50% | Final selection |
| AWT | 10% | Final selection |
| Normalised composite score | 40% | Final selection |
The 40% normalised composite component is itself based on the published shortlisting framework, including CAT performance and the application rating. Therefore, there is no single CAT percentile that can be treated as the final-admission cutoff. IIMA states that selection considers the applicable exam score, past academic performance, AWT and PI. IIM Ahmedabad Scholarships & Financial Assistance
IIMA provides need-based financial assistance along with donor, industry and government-linked scholarships. Eligibility, selection criteria and award amounts vary by scheme and admission year.
| Type | What students should know |
|---|---|
| Need-based financial assistance | Assessment can consider family income, assets and number of dependants, subject to IIMA's applicable rules. |
| Donor / industry scholarships | Specific scholarships may have academic, merit, need or other eligibility conditions. |
| Government-linked scholarships | Eligibility depends on the applicable government scheme and candidate category. |
Students should verify the scholarship notification for the relevant academic year rather than relying on older award amounts.
IIM Ahmedabad Student Reviews: What to Check Before Applying
Student experiences can vary by batch, programme, academic background and career goals. Rather than presenting an unverified aggregate review score, students should compare the factors that materially affect the MBA experience:
- Academic intensity: assess the case-based learning format, evaluation pattern and workload.
- Residential experience: check hostel, campus and student-community expectations for the programme.
- Career fit: compare the roles and sectors recruited for the specific programme you plan to join.
- Cost and financing: compare the complete cost of attendance with your own financing capacity and alternatives.
- Programme fit: PGP, FABM, PGPX and BPGP serve different student profiles, so reviews of one programme should not automatically be applied to another.

IIM Ahmedabad MBA FAQs: Student-Intent Questions
What is the fee structure of IIM Ahmedabad?
The latest officially published domestic fee for the two-year PGP is ₹27.50 lakh for the 2025–27 batch, including ₹20.10 lakh in tuition. IIMA has not yet published the final PGP 2027–29 fee in the information reviewed for this page. The published fee also does not cover several personal expenses, including a laptop/personal computer, travel, clothes, stationery and laundry. Therefore, a student should treat ₹27.50 lakh as the latest official fee benchmark, not the confirmed 2027–29 all-in cost.
Is IIM Ahmedabad good for placements?
The most recent audited PGP placement report available from IIMA is for 2026. It reports a mean Maximum Earning Potential of ₹37.97 lakh and a median of ₹37.00 lakh. The report records 392 accepted offers from 392 students who sought placement through the institute, while 402 students were eligible for placements.
What is the NIRF ranking of IIM Ahmedabad?
IIM Ahmedabad was ranked #1 in the NIRF Management category in 2025. IIMA also held the #1 position in 2024 and 2023. NIRF rank measures the institute at the management-category level, so it should not be interpreted as a programme-specific placement or salary ranking.
How to get admission in IIM Ahmedabad?
For the domestic PGP 2027–29, you need a recognised bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks, or 45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates under the published policy, and you must take CAT 2026. IIMA then applies its application-rating and CAT-based shortlisting process. Shortlisted candidates attend the Analytical Writing Test and Personal Interview, after which IIMA calculates a final composite score using 50% PI, 10% AWT and 40% normalised composite score. A qualifying CAT cutoff alone does not guarantee a PI call.
Does IIM Ahmedabad offer scholarships?
Yes. IIMA offers need-based financial assistance as well as industry, donor and government-linked scholarships. The need-based process considers factors such as family income, assets and number of dependants. Published examples include the Mirae Asset Foundation Scholarship, which provides ₹5 lakh each to three PGP/PGP-FABM students under the stated scheme, the Aditya Birla Group Scholarship of ₹3 lakh per year under its published rules, and the OP Jindal Engineering and Management Scholarship of ₹1.5 lakh. Availability and selection conditions can change, so students should check the scholarship rules for their admission year.
What courses are offered at IIM Ahmedabad?
IIMA offers multiple programmes, but the four covered in detail on this portal are the MBA/PGP, MBA-FABM, MBA-PGPX and MBA-BPGP. Each has different eligibility, entrance requirements, duration and fee structure, so students should use the programme-specific page before applying.
What is the expected CAT cutoff for IIM Ahmedabad MBA 2027?
IIMA does not publish a guaranteed interview-call percentile. For the 2027–29 PGP, the minimum General/EWS screening cutoff is 95 overall with 85 in each section. IIMA also states in an admissions explainer that General-category candidates in the 99–100 percentile range are considered; this should be treated as institutional guidance, not a guaranteed call cutoff. The actual shortlist also depends on the application rating and academic profile.
What CAT percentile is required for IIM Ahmedabad MBA admission 2027?
For the 2027–29 PGP, IIMA's minimum CAT 2026 cutoff is 95 overall and 85 in each section for General/EWS candidates. NC-OBC requires 90 overall and 80 sectional, SC requires 85 overall and 75 sectional, and ST requires 75 overall and 65 sectional. PwD candidates have separate lower thresholds. These are minimum screening cutoffs, not guaranteed PI-call or admission percentiles.
Is IIM Ahmedabad MBA worth the ₹27.50 lakh fee?
The answer depends on the student's own financial position, expected career path and opportunity cost. The latest published 2025 PGP fee benchmark is ₹27.50 lakh, while the 2026 audited mean and median MEP were ₹37.97 lakh and ₹37.00 lakh respectively. Those placement figures are not guarantees for an individual student, and the 2027–29 fee has not yet been published, so students should compare the full cost of attendance, financing terms, likely career outcomes and alternative MBA programmes before deciding.
