What makes BHU different for students?

Banaras Hindu University was established in 1916 and its 2026 UG bulletin describes a university spread across more than 550 hectares, with 5 institutes, 16 faculties and 136 departments. Its academic range covers science, engineering and technology, medicine, agriculture, veterinary sciences, humanities, social sciences, commerce, law, education, performing arts and visual arts.

The university also runs the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus at Barkachha in Mirzapur, about 75 km from the main Varanasi campus. IIT (BHU) is situated on the BHU campus but has separate engineering admissions and placement reporting, so its figures should not be mixed with BHU university data.

Which BHU courses are most relevant to applicants?

The 2026 UG bulletin lists four-year NEP programmes such as B.A. (Hons.), B.Com. (Hons.), B.Sc. (Hons.), BFA and BPA, along with programmes such as B.Sc. Agriculture, B.A. LL.B., medical technology and B.Tech in Food Technology and Dairy Technology. At PG level, BHU offers a much wider set of master's and professional programmes.

For 2026, BHU also listed separate practical-test routes for BFA and BPA. Their final merit includes CUET performance plus the practical examination conducted by BHU.

What is the BHU eligibility criteria?

There is no single BHU percentage requirement. The exact qualifying subjects, minimum marks and age requirements are programme-specific.

BHU's 2026 UG bulletin also states that final-year candidates can appear for CUET-UG, but they must meet the programme eligibility by the time of admission. A gap year does not by itself make a candidate ineligible.

How does BHU admission actually work?

The most important step students miss is that appearing for CUET is not the end of the BHU admission process. For the 2026 UG cycle, candidates had to appear for CUET-UG and then separately register through BHU's CAP-UG system for seat allocation.

UG admission flow

1. Choose the BHU programme and verify its CUET subject combination.
2. Appear for CUET-UG in the required subjects.
3. Register on BHU CAP-UG after the university opens its admission portal.
4. Submit programme preferences and required documents.
5. Participate in BHU allotment rounds.
6. Pay the admission fee within the notified deadline.
7. Use upgrade/freeze options where offered and complete reporting/document verification.

PG admission flow

1. Appear for the required CUET-PG paper.
2. Register on BHU's PG CAP/counselling portal.
3. Submit programme preferences and documents.
4. Participate in allotment or additional selection rounds.
5. Pay the prescribed fee after allotment and complete admission formalities.

The 2026 PG portal shows separate rounds for regular allotment, GD-PI programmes and spot/mop-up processes. This is why students should check the programme-specific notice instead of assuming that every PG course follows the same timeline.

How much CUET score is needed for BHU? Check the actual cutoff numbers

BHU publishes programme-level allotment cutoffs rather than one university-wide “BHU cutoff”. The official 2025 Round 1 UG allotment PDF reports the actual cutoff score against the programme, college/faculty and category. The figures below are useful reference points from the official Round 1 data.

These are 2025 Round 1 closing/allotment scores, not 2027 predictions. They also cannot be converted into a universal percentage because BHU uses programme-specific CUET score combinations and different courses have different maximum-score structures.

Why can two BHU courses have very different cutoffs?

• Programme demand differs.
• Seat availability differs by faculty/college.
• Category changes the applicable cutoff.
• Paid-fee courses can have different cutoffs from regular seats.
• Later rounds can move lower or higher depending on upgrades and vacant seats.

What does BHU actually charge for courses?

BHU does not have one university-wide course fee. The 2026 UG bulletin lists programmes and their academic structures, while programme-specific admission documents and fee notices determine the amount payable. The same university can therefore have very different fee obligations across Arts, Science, professional and paid-fee programmes.

For this overview, I am deliberately not inserting one “BHU average fee” because that would hide the programme-level difference. Exact fee tables should be added when each dedicated course page is created.

What are BHU placements like? Latest official numbers

BHU placement performance has to be read by programme duration because the university's official NIRF placement data reports different undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts. The university's 2025 public-disclosure material reports 626 UG students and 1,341 PG students placed.

The figures above are median salaries, not average or highest packages. This matters because a median is the middle value of the reported salary distribution and is more useful for judging the typical outcome than a headline highest package.

What does the university's Annual Report add?

BHU's 2024-25 Annual Report also contains unit-level placement evidence. One postgraduate cohort reported 156 students appearing for campus recruitment, of whom 151 were placed; packages ranged from ₹6 LPA to ₹19.8 LPA, with 57 organisations participating. Recruiters listed in that report included Infosys, Wipro, EY, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, SBI Life, Adani Wilmar, VECV and DCM Shriram.

This is useful evidence of recruiter activity, but it is not a university-wide MBA/BHU average package. It should be read as the placement outcome of the specific unit reported in the Annual Report.

The admission portal also lists colleges admitted to BHU's privileges, including Arya Mahila Post Graduate College, D.A.V. Post Graduate College, Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya and Vasanta College for Women. Therefore, the cutoff table should always be read with the faculty/college name attached to the score.
